Carolina Beach State Park Ruby Crowned Kinglet Perched

Ruby-crowned kinglet (Regulus calendula) perches head-downward on a slender branch at Carolina Beach State Park, its small body angled sharply as it forages through dense shrub cover. Olive-green and grayish plumage blends with the surrounding foliage, accented by pale wingbars and a bold white eye-ring around a dark, glossy eye.
