Francis Marion National Forest Weathered Wood Grain

Weathered tree bark in Francis Marion National Forest fills the frame with deep vertical fissures and ridges running the length of the image. Rendered in black and white, the texture shifts through charcoal blacks, mid-tone grays, and pale silver highlights along the raised grain. Directional side light rakes across the surface, deepening the shadows within each crevice and emphasizing the rough, cracked topography of the wood. The tight macro composition abandons scale and context entirely, presenting the bark as an abstract study of line, contrast, and organic pattern.
