Hampton Beach State Park presents a perfect symphony of relaxation and leisure. The calming sound of the waves hitting the sand and the refreshing waters of the ocean are juxtaposed by the chatter of people on the beach and by the repetitive sounds from the arcade games.
For foodies the nearby boardwalk is an attraction to visit. Food Stalls stacked one after each other, spoiling visitors with a variety of delicious meals and snacks, filling the air with an aroma guaranteed to make you salivate. The game arcades on the boardwalk also attract younger visitors, as they try to set a new high-score. It is also an excellent spot to get a Hampton Beach T-Shirt or souvenir. On the boardwalk, one can also find a memorial honoring lost soldiers at sea.
The beach also has two bathhouses, at the northern and southern end, with the gate at the southern end being open till 8pm. Visitors should also visit the iconic Seashell Pavilion where a series of free musical concerts are held regularly. There is also a picnic area, restrooms and a fully equipped campsite. Parking at the campsite is at $15 per car with elderly entering for free. It is highly recommended to pre-book parking places as otherwise parking is on a first come and first serve basis. Pets are not allowed on the beach during peak summer season and must be kept on a leash, off season. Visitors can horse ride on the beach during the off season.
Hampton Beach serves as a breakwater and a shield for the fierce weather elements, in fact this and the salt hay marches surrounding it were what attracted European colonists close to 375 years ago. It was only 200 years later in the 19th century that the area started becoming synonymous as a recreation spot. The state of New Hampshire took possession of the beach and its maintenance in 1933. Later in the 20th century the area was further developed through the building of a Casino, which attracted thousands of people every week, an electric trolley to replace other transportation, and a bridge connecting Seabrook to the beach, making it an attractive touristic spot.
Whether you’re looking for a relaxing day at the beach with friends or a family-oriented mini-break, Hampton Beach State Park ticks all the boxes. Being equipped with all necessary amenities for a stress free holiday, it is no wonder why this sea-side location attracts so many visitors year in year out.
